Chihuahua Rescue & Transport was founded in 1996 when 17 Chihuahuas in Texas were abandoned by their owner/breeder who developed Alzheimer’s and "forgot" them. Many were in deplorable condition, suffering from neglect and starvation. CRT was able to place all but 3 who could not be saved. To this day, many of the same volunteers are still with CRT. The majority of those adoptive homes are still in contact with us today!

200 volunteers strong, today CRT is a dedicated organization with a comprehensive website including on-line adoption/ volunteer applications and extensive screening and approval processes.

Every member involved with the initial rescue remains actively involved on the guiding committee and as volunteers and foster homes. We have become a close-knit but open-minded international "family" dedicated to Chihuahua rescue, education about the breed and emphatic supporters of the need for spaying/neutering. We rescue hundreds of Chihuahuas annually and maintain excellent cooperative working relationships with other recognized rescue organizations for various breeds.

Our adoption fee helps defray rescue, foster and veterinary costs. Unlike various other rescue organizations, we have never restricted ourselves to young, healthy, purebred or easily adoptable Chihuahuas. We have a long history of caring for geriatric, injured and sick Chihuahuas and Chi mixes. Our records show we ‘lose’ approximately $100 per Chihuahua, which we try to offset with private donations, website auctions and other fund-raising activities.

Please visit our website to find out more information about how you can adopt a Chihuahua, offer a donation or volunteer with CRT!
